Bradford on Avon Cricket Club First Eleven v Great Bedwyn on Sat 03 Jul 2021 at 13:00
Bradford on Avon Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
Bradford on Avon made it two wins in a row at Culver Close with a comfortable victory against bottom side Great Bedwyn.
Starting at 12.35, due to the football in the evening, BOA made the perfect start having chosen to bowl first. Opening bowlers Tom Wade and Pete Andrews were straight into their work with Wade bursting one through Finn Tuttle's defences, and when Andrews had Freddie Good bowled in the following over Great Bedwyn were reduced to 0/2. BOA didn't let the intensity drop and Wade and Andrews once again shared two wickets, this time Sam Tuttle and Joe Blundy were both sent packing - each clean bowled for just one. At 33/4, BOA's opening bowlers had done the damage and obliterated the visitors top order, with just skipper Ben Smith standing between BOA and bowling out Bedwyn for under 100.
Will Andrews then claimed the fifth wicket, his first league wicket for the 1st XI, as he bowled Chris Blundy via an inside edge to leave Bedwyn at 46/5. Smith found a willing accomplice in Alastair Tuttle however, and the two of them began to rebuild the innings for the basement boys, guiding them up to 103/5 in the 27th over. But Tuttle was well held behind the stumps by wicketkeepr Jon Moss off the bowling of Jack Vittles to get the ball rolling once again for BOA. The late order put up a little resistance as Smith raged against the dying of the light in smiting his way to 77 before being well caught by Vittles off the returning Wade for 77. Despite some late in the innings shenanigans - people appealing for LBW when the batsman was bowled, wides being called before batsmen hitting the ball and batsmen asking if they're out when bowled, BOA were pleased to restrict Bedywn to an eminently chaseable total.
An early nerves at taking on Smith, the division's leading wicket taker, were soon dispelled as BOA openers Matt Harrington and Tom Wade were quickly into their work. With some rain in the air, and a biblically bad forecast, DLS calculations were hastily made but thankfuly not required as Harrington and Wade looked comfortable against all Bedwyn threw at them. The pair combined for a partnership of 117 in 25 overs to break the back of the run chase, and while both fell in close succession once again, they gave BOA the perfect platform to knock of the remaining runs. Moss and Tony Burrows seeing BOA home with a steady partnership of 40.
A very solid win for BOA and another confident performance with the bat, having passed 200 in the last four matches too. With wickets shared around, and maximum bowling points secured, the bowling attacked also desrves praise for the way it limited the visitors to a sub-par score.
The 26-point victory puts BOA in the midst of a heavily congested mid-table, with local rivals Box the next opponents.
