Bradford on Avon Cricket Club Won By 3 Wickets
Match report
The last hurrah of truncated season with 25 wickets falling
On another glorious sunny September Sunday the BoA friendly XI sign off with a convincing win against a Frome Select XI away at Frome CC.
Consistency is great thing at our level of the game and the skipper lost the toss of third week in a row, resulting in Frome electing to bat on worn wicket that our opposition suggested would be slow and low. There were several players on both sides who had evidently has a good Saturday night so perhaps bowling first wasn't such a bad result. BoA were indebted to Frome player Matt Bracher who made up our XI.
Keeper Farrion arrived in good time this week, ensuring that Ben NC could opening the bowling with Alex Hoad who had stared last week with Keith 'Deadly' Moss; Keith was unavailable this week due to knee trouble picked up when bowling 8 in a row the week before, and wanting to preserve what mobility he had left in case of a late 'strictly' call up.
As last week the BoA openers made light work of the Frome batting with Ben picking up 4 and Alex Hoad 2 in opening spell of 13 overs. Ben in particular was menacing and constantly asking questions on a two paced pitch. Danny Hall and Joe Daddow replaced Ben and Alex and kept up the pressure both picking a wicket a piece, Frome rallied with N Collins hitting a fine half century ably supported by N Larder who took the score to over 100.
As last week the Captains had agreed that if the team batting first got bowled out for a low score the batsman would come for second innings. At 24 overs Frome had one wicket left and BoA skipper Carter opted to try and finish their first innings quickly bringing on Tom Wade and Will Andrews. They duly obliged with Andrews bowling with excellent rhythm up the hill and Wade using a wide range of variations with the wind to remove 5 Frome Batsmen in 6 overs. Frome had got to 125 in their first innings Matt Bracher came on up the hill and bowled well with Andrews swapping with Wade to come down the hill. Frome finished on 161 for 18 off 39.3 overs when the declaration was made.
After a swift tea was taken Harrington and Carter opened for BoA and batted sensibly against some tight Frome bowling, but managing to put away the odd bad ball. Carter went without getting to double figures but Harrington was well set and provided a good foil of next man in Jon Moss who in typical swashbuckling style put impetus into the BoA innings with a rapid 44, when Moss succumbed the score had moved onto 80. Liam Farrion was next in and with Harrington took the score to 125 to win the first game. Harrington graciously retired when he got to a well earned 50, however this precipitated a collapse with Farrion, Hall departing in quick succession, and then Tom Wade, Will Andrews and Alex Hoad all falling after brief cameo's it was left Joe Daddow to see BoA through to victory with Ben. A fitting end to the season for Joe who has stepped up take responsibility on several occasions with the bat when BoA have had late innings wobbles.
