Bradford on Avon Cricket Club First Eleven v Heytesbury & Sutton Veny on Sat 27 Jul 2019 at 13:00
Bradford on Avon Cricket Club Won by 31 runs

Match report BoA won by 31 runs. Having lost the toss BoA were asked to bat by Heytesbury. Due to Chris Thompson being stuck on the train and stranded at Trowbridge Station, Tom Ellis moved up to open with Matt Harrington but unfortunately neither player was able to register a score leaving BoA 4-2 off 4 overs. A 3rd wkt partnership of 98 between Will Johnson (53) and Tony Burrows (61) restored the balance and set BoA up for a hectic last 15 overs. Chris batted at 5 and looked good until he played on for 20 bringing Lewis Green to the crease with much to do at 103 for 3 off 32 overs. A 7th wicket partnership of 73 in 9 overs between Green (52) and Paul Vooght (40*) helped give BoA a respectable total to defend.

The Heytesbury response was very similar to Swindon's a week earlier. Whilst good deliveries were beating the bat, Heytesbury openers of Grant (54) and Leach 47) had a knack of finding the boundary on regular occasion with PV being smashed for a huge 6 from his second ball of the game (standard!!). With bowlers being rotated regularly to find a wicket Matty took a skyer off his own bowling to dismiss Leach with the score on 104 off 18 overs. Skipper Grant tore a calf muscle which required a runner but this also reduced his attempted strokes to the slog sweep which was effective for a while until he skyed a ball to be caught and bowled by Jon Moss. At 122-2 off 25 overs with Heytesbury looking like they were cruising to victory, they lost their heads! All or nothing shots to Matty (3-52) and Jonny (4-40) resulted in 4 catches (in the space of 7 overs) in the deep being taken by Lewis, Josh and a spectacular one handed grab from over the boundary by Will Johnson whilst in front of the Heytesbury team and BoA supporters. Gradually the Heytesbury run chase faltered and fizzled out. Even at the 40th over Heytesbury were ahead of where BoA were at the same point but they lacked the batting power and confidence to attack and defensive strokes appeared regularly for the first time.

Big thanks again to Angela Tadman and Amy for scoring.
