Swindon 3 v Bradford on Avon Cricket Club First Eleven on Sat 20 Jul 2019 at 13:00
Bradford on Avon Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
A nightmare at Ramsbury. We won the toss and opted to bat first on the artificial. BoA got off to an awful start losing the top 3 batsmen for just 5 runs off 7 overs with Swindon making the most of the swinging Neon 156 ball. A vital 4th wicket partnership of 96 runs between Rich Fuller (48) and Paul Vooght (63) created a chance for BoA to stay in the game and a further 65 run partnership between Vooght and James Pike (27) pulled momentum back for BoA. Tom Wade continued his good run of form with the bat (12*) and Dean Bird (14*) hit the BoA shot of the day with a reverse shovel to fine leg! However a flurry of wickets prevented BoA from setting a competitive total on a ground where 250-260 is the par score.
The Swindon response was the exact opposite of BoAs. Poor bowling was punished and big aggressive shots caught the edge and narrowly avoided our hands. Young opener Pitman was dropped behind in the first over off a quick delivery from Wade and he was later dropped off Birdy. Equally skipper Baden was dropped at mid off and rode his luck several times in his agricultural fifty. The 'all or nothing' innings by Sanjay Chahal closed the door on any hope of a BoA win as Pitman carefully guided the run chase with maturity beyond his years.
The saying 'Catches win matches' was true of today's performance where the chances on offer needed to be taken to defend this total on the artificial wicket. Many of the BoA bowlers struggled with their run ups and grip on the wicket and this led to some wayward deliveries and tended to sum up the overall performance by BoA.
