Match report Bradford on Avon 2s got off to a winning start in the local derby at home to Winsley 2s.
After losing the toss and being put into bat James pike soon made Winsley regret their decision. A 59 run opening partnership saw the home team get off to a solid start and when the stubborn Richard Smith was bowled for a well made 2 runs it brought Jake Prior to the crease in his league debut for the club. James Pike continued his onslaught on the Winsley attack hitting 17 fours and 6 sixes on his way to 137, with a 112 run partnership. Jake then took up the impetus and accelerated his innings, joined by captain Jon Moss who made a quick 33, Jake made a brilliant maiden hundred for the club eventually finishing 102 not out helping the team to a total of 310.
Winsley's innings got off a slow start, but when L Wright and captain C Selway came to the crease the target of over 300 appeared to be in sight. After a 124 run partnership Lewis Watson bowled Selway for 50, however Wright continued his innings eventually falling to a brilliant one-handed catch by 66-year-old Keith Moss. By this time he had scored 117 well made runs, however Winsley still needed another 56 runs to win in the last 4 overs. Wickets continued to fall in pursuit of fast runs and the innings eventually ended on 266/9.
A great start to the season with almost 600 runs scored and three centurions, congratulations to grounds-man Mike Smith for producing a great wicket.
