Bradford on Avon Cricket Club Won By 99 Runs

Match report Stand in home captain Matthew Harrington lost the toss and Bradford on Avon were invited to take first use of dry and bouncy Culver Close track.

The home innings started badly, Ian Pinchen being clean bowled by the charismatic Marlon Simon for 2 runs off the second ball of the game. A steady 40 run partnership between Harrington and Cooksey rebuilt the innings but when Cooksey fell for 24, Lakin and Harrington also followed in quick succession to leave Bradford in trouble at 60-4. Nick Gerrish and Tony Burrows put on a 60 run partnership to revive the innings, Gerrish falling for a flamboyant 39. Simon then returned to the attack to bowl an aggressive spell at the Bradford lower order who displayed some real guts in fending off the short pitched ball. Contributions from Burrows 26, Perera 21, Hotchen 16 and Coles 12 took Bradford to a competitive 181-9 from their 45 overs, Toby Dorgan being the lead wicket taker with 3-55 from 11 overs.

The Urchfont reply began in the midst of some drizzle and the players left the field a couple of times in the first few overs. However Bradford were quickly in the ascendancy with Mishak Belfon and Nick Gerrish chief tormentors. After the dangerous David Bromley was run out, Urchfont’s innings self-capitulated within 22 overs as they went from 28-1 to 82 all out inside the space of 10 overs. Belfon claimed an excellent 4-33 from 11 overs and Gerrish rounded off a good day with 5-10 from just 4.4 overs. Both bowled aggressively at the wickets to get full reward for impressive spells.

The victory margin of 99 runs reflected Bradford’s dominance and they now inch closer to safety in division 1, 33 points clear of Swindon Nalgo who they play this coming Saturday.
