Moral boosting End of season victory over Box as the veterans lead the way.
30 Aug 2014
The final Surridge Wiltshire Division one league encounter of the 2014 season provided many twists and turns on a wicket which was far from batsman friendly as a result of overnight rain. Credit to both sides as the best was made of the prevailing conditions. Box won the toss and had no hesitation in inviting the visitors Bradford on Avon into bat.To say the scoring rate was pedestrian would be an overstatement, as a procession of batsman came and went with little addition to the score. It took veteran Tony Laws with an innings of 35 and a well struck 30 from Paul Vooght, undoubtably the best number ten in the league with an undefeated innings of 30 to post an above par score of 121,Dave Crawford of Box with 4 for 27 the pick of the bowlers. At tea the Bradford skipper was confident the total was sufficient. All of the Bradford bowlers bowled well with Paul Vooght leading the way with 4 for 23.The Box batsman made a fight of the chase with six batsman getting into double figures. The turning point came when former Wiltshire batsman Richard Foley holed out to deep square leg to Chris Hotchen off of the bowling of Danny Tallentire who finished with figures of 3 for 13 and also finished of proceedings by bowling Nobby Styles to secure the narrowest of victories after the Box last wicket pairing had put on 28 leaving Bradford on Avon a moral boosting victory to end the season by 4 runs.
