In an ideal world, all cricket matches would be scored by a pair of competent scorers – but we don’t live (and play cricket) in an ideal world! At the moment few clubs have enough scorers to cover their matches (and, if they do have a good scorer, they don’t have a backup plan to cover scoring duties in their absence).
One of the aims of the Wiltshire Association of Cricket Officials is to improve the numbers and competence of scorers in Wiltshire. To this end they are holding a Scorers’ Taster session from 9.30-11.30am on Sunday 8th September 2013 at Beversbrook Sports Facility, Calne, SN11 9FL. The session will involve practical scoring, with all scoresheets and pens provided. No prior knowledge is assumed though of course those with some experience would be most welcome to attend.
This is where you come in – cricket clubs will know many people who have in interest in cricket and both Wiltshire ACO and your club would gain from tapping into this source of potential scorers (a win-win situation).
Please will you circulate this invitation to all in your club who might be interested, including all players (both adult and junior) and members of their families? With modern methods of communication like email this should be possible and not too onerous. In our experience the friends and families of players are a good source of new scorers, as are players coming to the end of their playing careers. You could also display one of the invitations on your noticeboard in case anyone else may be interested.
