Guy Tadman - Sadly loses his battle with Cancer

29 Apr 2021

On Thurs 29th April, Guy sadly lost his 18mth fight to Cancer aged 45. Many from the Club would have played with him and more recently, before Covid, you would have seen him watching Dan and Josh play from the other side of the boundary. He was a local firefighter and helping people was his passion, it meant Guy didn't always have the time to play at weekends as much as he would have liked but he loved his cricket.

Many of you wouldn't have been aware of his contributions but if there was something that needed fixing, then Guy was your 'go to Guy'! More recently, he led our efforts to retrieve and rebuild the covers at our ground, he fixed the wooden benches we use and he donated the heavy duty shelves our youth equipment now sits on.

Guy was one of the first products from the Clubs original youth section and was a good left arm seam bowler and wristy right hand bat. He went on to represent Wiltshire at u13s level where in one game he played against a young Marcus Trescothick, unfortunately dropping him on the square leg boundary on his way to one of his first of many hundreds. Guy went on to play for the 2nd and 1st XIs before his firefighting career started to develop. He also played for Devizes before rejoining Bradford around ten years ago.

As a player, Guy was a max effort competitor who loved to patrol the covers and hated giving any single away. He was the snarling med/fast bowler that wanted to see stumps ripped out of the ground and struggled to conceal his frustration when he was hit for boundaries and you knew you were in for a glare if you dropped a catch off him! His batting was destructive, he looked good at the crease, loved the clip off his legs and hit the ball in the air a little too much. As with most grass roots players there were times when it didn't happen for him, but when it clicked, he amassed runs all around the park and meant his team often came out on the winning side.

Guy's (and Angela's) love of cricket has passed down to their two sons who possess the same 'Tadman' talent and passion. We send them our deepest condolences to Angela, Daniel and Joshua at this difficult time.
