Lacock v Bradford on Avon Cricket Club First Eleven on Sat 08 Jun 2019 at 13:00
Bradford on Avon Cricket Club Won by 2 wkts
Match report
BoA won by 2 wkts making this their 4th consecutive win. Skipper Vooght won the toss and decided to bowl on a track that was very dry despite the heavy rain over the previous 36 hours. This was expected to be a challenging game against Lacock who were in confident mood having won all but one of the matches this season. However, we soon discovered the pitch had a variable bounce and this combined with strong blustery wind on what was otherwise a sunny day added to the occasion.
BoA bowled well throughout keeping up the pressure on the Lacock batsmen restricting run scoring opportunities. Tom Wade continued to improve his consistency and looked a handful throughout with his pace and a few that popped off a fullish length (scary!). Matty Harrington bowled superbly with his remodeled run up and made the most of the pitch variations and choked the first half of the Lacock innings - but it is worth mentioning his 2nd wicket was to a long hop off his last ball (it was a shocker!). Dave Carter (who unsurprisingly arrived 45 mins late!) bowled a good first spell and removed the threatening Forester (later admitted not walking to a previous caught behind 20 runs earlier). Dean Bird continued his run of good performances with another excellent spell where he critically removed stubborn opener Wiltshire. Also a quick shout out to Tony Burrows for taking the only catch of the innings - we still remain in a pleasant state of shock! Finally, this pitch contributed to a difficult day behind the stumps for Chris to which his body will demonstrate through the bruises he collected on his chest and fingers and an unusual amount of byes conceded. Keeping Lacock to 147 was a fab effort and a chaseable score was within our grasp, albeit much harder prospect on this track.
In response, Chris Thompson anchored the BoA innings with a patient 45 and he was dropped early on which may have been a significant moment. In a battling display, Matt, Tony and Tom were unable to get a foothold in the game. The improving Lewis Green applied himself and then used his explosive hitting (38) to put on 67 for the 4th wicket with Chris and taking the score to 105. The final run chase in the next 12 overs to the target was not measured or pretty. The late loss of Chris did make hearts flutter but Lacock had already bowled out its opening bowlers and were calling on new bowlers late on. Tom Wade batted with caution and chose the right balls to dispatch as he guided the chase through to the end. An over-exuberant celebration from Rufus after hitting the winning boundary showed the sense of relief to crawl over the winning line.
Big thanks to Angie Tadman for scoring and to Mike Smith for umpiring.
Well done boys. #GoGudgeons #BRADSLAM
